Playwriting: This class will teach all the skills necessary for writing a notebook’s worth of stories, monologues and two-character dialogues to create one final collaborative play for youth to perform. You will learn the fundamentals of playwriting from characters and dialogue, to dramatic structure and stage directions. You will also learn about basic stagecraft: from set design and props to directing. We’ll explore writing exercises and discuss plays by genre, from tragedy to comedy to contemporary realism. In this fun and encouraging environment, you will learn tools and tips on how to construct a play to perform at the culmination of the session.
Improvisational Theatre: we will delve into the main elements of Comedy - improvisational, physical and stand-up! We will set the groundwork for healthy technique in all disciplines and work together to learn how to build a cohesive ensemble. Participants will rehearse and perform the script they write in Playwriting at the culmination of the course.
